Sophia’s growing interest in educational equity is grounded in research and practice on countering implicit bias through culturally responsive pedagogy and asset-based teaching. Additionally, Sophia has raised money for brain cancer awareness, a cause that is increasingly near and dear to her, especially since her mother’s passing. Sophia also hopes to advocate for increased education and awareness around various forms of cancer, an area she believes is sorely underrepresented in public high school academic curricula.

As an ambassador, Sophia aims to uplift student athletes by bridging her love for sport with advocacy for fairness, understanding, and opportunity in education and athletics.

about

the founder

Sophia White is a sophomore at Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, California, where she competes as a dedicated member of the Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball Team and with SC Rockstar club volleyball. On the court, Sophia’s resilience stands out: she has overcome two significant ankle sprains during both her freshman and sophomore seasons, turning her recovery journeys into sources of strength and self-discovery.

These experiences sparked Sophia’s passion for exercise science, physical therapy, and kinesiology, fields she aspires to study in college as she seeks to help others rebound stronger from injury. Off the court, she is an active participant in her school’s Black Student Union, where she explores how racialized stereotypes shape educational and athletic outcomes for Black students.

our story

I founded Stop Insult2Injury to address the disparities in injury prevention, treatment, and recovery that many young athletes face. As a student-athlete, I’ve had the opportunity to train in environments with strong medical and physical support, including access to athletic trainers, physical therapists, and recovery resources that many athletes never encounter. I recognize that my family’s resources and my early experiences in a well-supported private school environment gave me advantages that not every athlete receives.

When I transitioned to a public school, I witnessed firsthand how dramatically those resources can differ. The same number of injuries existed, but far fewer professionals were available to support a much larger group of athletes. My own experience highlighted this disparity. After spraining my ankle in 2024, I received immediate care and consistent follow-up from an in-school physical therapist. When I suffered another ankle sprain during the summer of 2025 after transferring schools, the recovery process looked entirely different—less structured, less supervised, and far more dependent on what I could access outside of school.

These experiences made me realize that injury care in youth sports often depends on circumstance rather than need. For many athletes—especially those from lower-income communities—sports represent a pathway to college scholarships, career opportunities, and economic mobility. Yet these same athletes are often the least likely to have access to preventative care, rehabilitation support, or injury education. Without those resources, an injury can become more than a temporary setback; it can derail a future.

Stop Insult2Injury exists to help close this gap. Through education, resource-sharing, and advocacy, the initiative aims to ensure that all student-athletes—regardless of school funding or family income—have access to the knowledge and support they need to stay healthy, recover properly, and continue pursuing their goals.
